Enhancement of Biogas Production from Macroalgae Ulva latuca via Ozonation Pretreatment

One of the dominant species green algae growing along Mediterranean coast Egypt is Ulva lactuca. Pretreatment can have a major effect on biogas production because hydrolysis cell wall structure rate-limiting stage in anaerobic digestion (AD) process. The use ozone, new pretreatment, to boost from lactuca was investigated this study. Ozonation at various dosages used contrast untreated biomass, and performance subsequent mesophilic AD using two separate inoculums (cow manure activated sludge) examined. findings indicated that, different studies, ozonation pretreatment showed substantial increase yield relative algae. With an ozone dose 249 mg O3 g–1 VS algal for lactuca, highest output (498.75 mL/g VS) achieved cow inoculum. evaluation FTIR, TGA, SEM, XRD revealed impact integrity breakage, which thus established as main contributor improving production.
